The Edo State Police Command on Monday paraded 68 suspected criminals for various offences in Benin, Edo State capital.
Among the suspects is a man, who was arrested for allegedly killing his father, Mr. Momodu, over a missing stick of cigarette.
The 22-year-old man, who allegedly cut his father with a cutlass over an argument on the missing cigarette, confessed to the crime while a cutlass was recovered from him, according to statement made available to PUNCH Metro by the Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo,
The command also paraded 22 armed robbery suspects, including two men, Ojo and Enobakhare, who allegedly gang-raped a woman after robbing occupants of a building at No. 14, Aimovo Street in Benin.
Others include 16 suspected kidnappers, including five men: Saturday, Odion, Monday, Odianose and Shaka, whom the commissioner said confessed to be responsible for kidnapping a woman on September 17, 2013, while no fewer than 14 persons were arrested for illegal possession of fire arms.
Among the 13 paraded for defilement and rape was one Yakubu, 42, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl at Textile Mill Quartres in Benin.
The police said that one Chinwe was nabbed for allegedly manufacturing fake consumer goods under popular brands, while another suspect, Kadiri, was apprehended by security officers on pipeline protection unit at Agbede with 22 drums of suspected to contain illegally refined diesel.
The police statement read that 17 assorted guns, 48 live cartridges, three cars, one Lifan motorcycle, one battle axe and one cutlass were recovered from all the suspects.
Addressing journalists in Benin, the commissioner, while urging residents to be vigilant and report suspicious movements, especially as they enter the “ember” months, restated the resolve of the command curb crime in the state.
